Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is an upcoming 2D Metroidvania game, the 26th main entry in Konami’s long-running Castlevania series, announced on February 12, 2026, during PlayStation’s State of Play livestream to celebrate the franchise’s 40th anniversary. Konami has positioned it as the “beginning of numerous new products around Castlevania.”

Story and Setting
Set in 1499—23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse—the game takes place in a demon-overrun 15th-century Paris. Monstrous creatures emerge from the shadows, engulfing the city in flames and chaos, with a looming mystical castle on the horizon. A local bishop sends a desperate letter to Trevor Belmont, the “last of House Belmont,” for aid. However, it’s Trevor Belmont’s young successor (a female Belmont descendant with red hair and a braided ponytail, as shown in key art) who wields the legendary Vampire Killer whip to hunt beasts, save the city, and uncover the source of the invasion.

Gameplay
This side-scrolling action-exploration title emphasizes fluid whip combat and traversal: swing the Vampire Killer like a trapeze from anchor points (inspired by Super Castlevania IV), strike from afar, and uncover secrets. Expect a non-linear Metroidvania world with biomes full of traps, puzzles, environmental hazards, hidden items, and challenging bosses. Players can equip a variety of weapons, spells, and abilities for strategic, fast-paced fights. Classic Castlevania elements return, including save rooms, fast travel, and an auto-filling map. It features a fresh, colorful gothic art style blending series traditions with vibrant, stylized visuals.

  • Combat: Whip-focused with weapons/spells; aerial swings and multi-hit attacks
  • Exploration: Open world, secrets, puzzles, traps; Paris streets to sinister castle
  • Traversal: Whip as mobility tool; fast-paced platforming
Controller Support: Full controller (Xbox/DualSense recommended); keyboard option
