The Evercade Spectrum Handheld (officially The Spectrum Handheld) is a new clamshell-style portable retro gaming device from HyperMegaTech! (a brand under Blaze Entertainment, the makers of Evercade consoles). It was announced in late April 2026 as a nostalgic tribute to the classic 1980s ZX Spectrum home computer.

It’s designed to look and feel like a portable version of the original Spectrum, with a folding clamshell form factor reminiscent of the Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP or old palmtop computers.

Key Specs and Features

  • Screen: 4.3-inch IPS display at 840×480 resolution (sharp and bright for retro games).
  • Processor/RAM: Quad-core 1.2 GHz CPU with 256 MB DDR RAM (far more powerful than the original 8-bit hardware).
  • Design: Clamshell handheld, dimensions approx. 136mm (W) × 86mm (D) × 26mm (H) when closed, weighs around 235g. Classic black color with rainbow Spectrum branding.
  • Controls: D-pad, action buttons, and four rubber mappable function keys (to emulate the original Spectrum’s keyboard layout for certain games).
  • Storage/Expansion: Built-in 25 classic Spectrum games + MicroSD card slot for adding your own ROMs/games. Rear USB-A port for keyboards, joysticks, or other peripherals. Supports multiple Spectrum emulations (PAL/NTSC).
  • Battery: Over 3 hours of playtime.
  • Other: Volume controls, headphone jack, etc. It’s lightweight and pocketable when closed.

Included Games (25 Built-In)
Classics and favorites like: Manic Miner, Head Over Heels, Skool Daze, The Great Escape, Starquake, Where Time Stood Still, Zynaps, Bounder, and more (including some modern homebrew titles).

It’s part of a pair with THEC64 Handheld (Commodore 64 version in beige), both developed in partnership with Retro Games Ltd.
