The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake has been a hot topic recently, with multiple sources pointing to an imminent release. Industry insiders, including Jeff Grubb, have reported that the game, titled The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, is set to “shadow drop” the week of April 21, 2025. Screenshots and assets leaked on April 15, 2025, from developer Virtuos’ website, confirming the project’s existence and showing off visuals built in Unreal Engine 5. The remaster reportedly includes reworked mechanics like improved NPC AI, a refined stamina system, better sneaking, Souls-like blocking, an overhauled archery system, and an updated HUD. It’s being developed by Virtuos, alongside Bethesda Dallas and Bethesda Rockville, blending the original Gamebryo engine’s core logic with Unreal Engine 5’s graphical enhancements.
Screenshots on the Virtuos website also suggest a deluxe edition. In this special edition, players can get access to extra items, such as horse armour and exclusive weapons.

Rumors suggest a release on Xbox, PC, and possibly Game Pass, with no clear confirmation on a PS5 version yet. Some speculate it could also hit Nintendo’s next-gen console later. However, Bethesda has remained silent, with their support account stating, “We have no official information on an Oblivion remake,” which hasn’t quelled the hype. Posts on X echo this excitement, with users sharing leaks and anticipating a reveal soon. On the flip side, some fans worry it’s just a remaster, not a full remake, and question whether it’ll live up to expectations given the original’s quirks, like clunky combat. Others point to Skyblivion, a fan-made remake, as potentially outshining the official effort if it doesn’t innovate enough.
